Dear UNSW Circusoc
I would like to share an excerpt from my speech at tonight’s 20th Anniversary celebrations.
Over 20 years I have seen Circusoc do some amazing things. I have seen the envelope pushed, new things tried and experiments in shows, techniques, skills and performances that have allowed people to express themselves and break into a world unlike any other.
Whilst the club started as a small group back in 1996, it was the members who took up the challenge to keep the club going that are the real reason the club has become what it is today. They helped take the club from a fledgling group to a professional widely renewed troupe of performers, artists and inspirers.
And so here and now I challenge you to keep doing what you’re doing, to keep pushing the boundaries, keep inspiring others, keep letting people share your hopes your dreams your passions and your magic. When you’re on stage you transport your audience to another realm. You make them forget their trouble and exist in a world where anything is possible. You are their escape and their inspiration. When you share your skills and teach them you allow those people to create worlds of their own into which more may come.
Keep the dream alive and the desire to put on a show unlike the world has ever seen.
I am proud of where you have all come. I am humbled by the achievements you have made and the hundreds of people who have walked through your doors and taken the journey with you and I am honoured to watch it unfold.
The universe awaits… What will you do next?
…. I will be watching!.
